ASC to build the world's largest
autoclave
June 5, 2006 - Sylmar, CA, USA
Vought Aircraft Industries Inc. (www.voughtaircraft.com)
has selected ASC Process Systems (www.aschome.com)
to provide what will be the largest
autoclave system in the world. The autoclave
will provide a working area of 30 feet
(9.25M) in diameter and 75 feet (23.1M) in
length.
The autoclave will be capable of curing
combined load of 200,000 LB of steel
tooling, and composite parts. It is
estimated that 2 full loads can be processed
per 24 hour day. The autoclave will be
equipped with ASC’s CPC™ control system. It
offer’s full redundancy which limits the
likelihood of a failed cure. CPC is
currently installed on over 1,100 pieces of
equipment world wide. The autoclave will be
rated at 150 PSIG @ 450şF, and is equipped
with a fully controllable vacuum system. Due
to the mammoth size, the entire autoclave
will be fabricated onsite in Charleston SC.
Support equipment such as cooling systems,
vacuum systems, power, and controls systems
will be manufactured at ASC’s new facility
in Sylmar California, and shipped to the job
site for installation.
This will provide curing of fuselage
sections 47 and 48 of the Boeing 787
Dreamliner (formerly 7E7). The mammoth
autoclave will be field constructed at the
new 787 subassembly facility in Charleston
S.C. “The entire ASC team is excited to be a
part of this monumental project” stated Dave
Mason, the President of ASC Process Systems.
The autoclave will feature many ASC
innovations, including full redundancy of
critical systems, as well as ASC’s redundant
CPC control system. Scheduled completion is
February, 2006.
ASC has grown to become the leading
manufacture of autoclaves, service, support,
and control systems in North America.
